| - The coronavirus outbreak could shave 0.1 percentage point off France's economic growth as its projected impact on China's economy trickles down, the French finance ministry said Thursday. "Our assessment is that the impact on Chinese growth will be in the order of one (percentage) point over the year," French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire told RMC/BFMTV. "This will mean 0.2 percentage point less growth at the global level, and 0.1 point of growth less for France," he said, citing ministry calculations. If the epidemic worsens, "of course the impact will be greater," the minister said. France's GDP growth slowed to 1.2 percent in 2019 after a tough fourth quarter that saw output fall by 0.1 percent amid a crippling transport strike against pension reform. "In 2003, when there was the SARS outbreak, China represented about eight percent of global wealth, today it is about 20 percent," said Le Maire. "The fact that the Chinese economy is slowing down poses problems for many value chains in many industrial sectors." boc/mlr/sjw/jh
