The NFL and its players union have agreed to continue a daily COVID-19 testing program through September 5, the NFL Players Association announced Wednesday. That would take the test program to the Saturday before the NFL is scheduled to open its season on September 10 with Houston visiting reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City. "We have reached an agreement with the @NFL to continue daily testing through September 5th," the NFLPA tweeted. "We will continue to monitor positivity rates within each club and relevant information from each team community to inform our assessment of testing frequency ahead of the regular season." An initial agreement between the league and union on July 20 required daily tests for the first two weeks of training camp. Under that deal, if the positive COVID rate was at or below 5%, testing would have been reduced to every other day. The NFLPA had pushed for daily testing from the start of talks about return to work protocols. As of last Wednesday, the NFLPA had found 107 total player positive tests in the off-season, with 56 recorded since players reported to training camps at team facilities. js/dj
