| - The president of the European Council, Charles Michel, has entered self-isolation, his spokesman said Thursday, after meeting France's President Emmanuel Macron earlier in the week. Macron has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, but his spokesman Barend Leyts said Michel had tested negative on Tuesday after returning from Paris. Michel "was informed by the French authorities that he is not considered to be a close contact. He is tested regularly and tested negative on Tuesday," the spokesman tweeted. "However as a matter of precaution the president will go into self-isolation," Leyts said, adding that Michel had been in Paris on Monday for the anniversary of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In a separate tweet from his own account, Michel wished Macron a speedy recovery. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who also met Macron on Monday, has also entered quarantine. Macron was in Brussels on Thursday and Friday last week for a meeting of EU leaders, hosted by Michel, but an EU official told AFP that French authorities think Macron was infected on Monday or Tuesday this week. dc/del/gd
