| - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, whose country is a staunch supporter of Libya's UN-recognised Government of National Accord, began a visit to Tripoli on Thursday. Cavusoglu arrived with his Maltese counterpart Evaris Bartolo, the foreign ministry said in a statement. "During the visit, issues on the joint agenda of the three countries will be discussed," it said, without elaborating. Libya has been mired in chaos since the 2011 overthrow of longtime dictator Moamer Kadhafi, with rival political and armed groups battling for control. The GNA, headed by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, is fighting for control of the country against eastern-based commander Khalifa Haftar. Tenisons have been running high between Turkey and other nations such as Russia, Egypt, Saudia Arabia and the United Arab Emirates which support Haftar. The GNA signed security and maritime agreements with Turkey last year, with Ankara's military support including drones that helped it re-impose control over Libya's northwest. fo/txw
