| - Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was placed on Major League Baseball's Covid-19 injured list on Thursday due to a fever and stomach ache despite testing negative. The 30-year-old American, a two-time MLB All-Star, signed the largest catcher contract in league history at five years at $115 million with the Phillies earlier this year. Realmuto is batting .314 with four home runs and 16 runs batted in over 33 games for the Phillies so far this season and was questionable for Thursday's game at Washington with a bruised left knee before being benched as a precaution. "All his tests are fine," Phillies manager Joe Girardi said. "He came down with a stomach ache and a fever during the game last night, so he's in Covid protocol. "His tests have been negative. But when you get those symptoms, you're in protocol... You can't let someone with a stomachache and a small fever walk around your clubhouse today. "In a normal year, you wouldn't worry about it, but you can't do that now." Exactly when Realmuto will return is uncertain. "It's possible," Girardi said. "He'll be tested and tested and we'll go from there." Realmuto, in his eighth MLB season, will not travel with the Phillies to Florida for three games against Toronto starting Friday. At 20-17, the Phillies were one game behind the National League East division-leading New York Mets. js/rcw
