Chamonix was host to a slalom and parallel event last year and was due to host a downhill and parallel next year before the season was upended by the Covid-19 pandemic. It has now been decided that two slalom races will be held at the resort on January 30 and 31, 2021. Coronavirus has already forced the international ski federation (FIS) to scrap its traditional swing through North America in late November. The Alpine World Cup season will kick off in Soelden, Austria, on October 17-18 for the traditional giant slaloms on the Rettenbach glacier. The next stop will be the debut of Austrian host resort Lech/Zurs on November 14-15, which will feature a men's and a women's parallel race. rg/lp/bsp
