| - New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres was named Thursday as the Major League Baseball club's eighth vaccinated positive Covid-19 case and placed on the coronavirus injured list. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is looking into the outbreak of "breakthrough" vaccinated positives after the Yankees received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine last month. The Yankees were allowed to relax certain Covid-19 protocols after 85% of the organization was vaccinated, including not having to quarantine after close contact with a virus-positive person. Torres, who had Covid-19 in the past off-season, joined a set of Yankees positives that includes pitching coach Matt Blake, third-base coach Phil Nevin, first-base coach Reggie Willits and four members of the Yankees' traveling staff. The coaching and staff positives are all under quarantine protocol in Tampa, Florida, while MLB, its medical experts and New York State Department of Health officials are advising and assisting the Yankees, who are undergoing additional testing and contact tracing. Torres was batting .234 with 29 hits, 17 walks and 10 runs batted in for the season. At 20-16, the Yankees are level with Toronto for second in the American League East division, one game behind Boston. js/dj
