Turkey has captured and returned from Uzbekistan two suspected members of the movement blamed for the 2016 coup attempt against President Recept Tayyip Erdogan, state media reported on Monday. The two men, identified as Gurbuz Sevilay and Tamer Avci, were brought back to Turkey as part of a covert mission carried out by the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT), the Anadolu news agency reported. The reports did not say what role the Uzbek government or security services played in the MIT operation. The two individuals are accused of membership in a group of the US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, who Ankara accuses of masterminding the botched coup. Sevilay, who works in the defence industry, is also accused of illegally crossing into Syria and contacting outlawed Kurdish militants at their headquarters, Anadolu said. Turkey's spy agency has flown several alleged Gulen group members from countries including the African state of Gabon and Kosovo in the Balkans. fo/zak/jxb
