| - Namibian Peter Shalulile and Zambian Augustine Mulenga came closest to scoring as leaders Mamelodi Sundowns drew 0-0 with AmaZulu on Wednesday in a South African Premiership top-of-the-table showdown. Sundowns' leading scorer Shalulile pushed the ball wide when scoring seemed simpler after Amazulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa parried a close-range shot into his path in Durban. Earlier in the second half, Mulenga powered his way into the box and slammed a low shot past veteran Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango only to see it rebound off the post. Scoring opportunities were scarce as defences dominated a cagey clash that finished with Sundowns six points ahead of AmaZulu and having two matches in hand. AmaZulu surrendered second spot two hours later to fellow Durban club Golden Arrows, who won 1-0 at SuperSport United through a Nduduzo Sibiya goal to climb one place on goal difference. Defending champions Sundowns have 47 points, Arrows and AmaZulu 41 each, Orlando Pirates 38, Swallows 37 and SuperSport 35 in the chase for a 15 million rand ($1.05 mn/875,000 euros) first prize. Seeking a record fourth straight league title, Pretoria-based Sundowns have nine matches to play and their rivals seven or eight. They have also reached the CAF Champions League quarter-finals and the April 30 draw will pair them with fellow South Africans Kaizer Chiefs, title-holders Al Ahly of Egypt or Mouloudia Alger of Algeria. Chiefs have won 53 domestic trophies, more than any other club, but last lifted a trophy in 2016 when they topped the Premiership table. The Soweto outfit are in danger of creating an unwanted record this season as they lie 11th after a 2-1 home defeat by resurgent Cape Town City. Chiefs, who have never finished lower than ninth, conceded goals either side of half-time before Australia-born substitute Kearyn Baccus scored to trigger a late surge of attacks. But an equaliser eluded the hosts, who have won only two of 12 home league matches, as the visitors from sea-level Cape Town tired in the 1,600 metre (5,200 feet) altitude. A winless run by one-time title challengers SuperSport stretched to seven matches as they lost at home for the first time this season. Arrows moved the ball swiftly from deep in their half to the United box, where Sibiya calmly struck the ball wide of Zimbabwean goalkeeper George Chigova and into the net. Bottom club Black Leopards were held 0-0 by Stellenbosch -- the 10th time in 12 home matches that they have failed to collect maximum points. str-dl/jc
