Kilmarnock moved off the bottom of the Scottish Premiership as Tommy Wright enjoyed an emphatic first win in charge with a 4-1 victory over Motherwell as St Johnstone secured the final place in the top six. Killie had failed to win in Wright's first five matches since replacing the sacked Alex Dyer, but gave their chances of survival a huge boost in the final round of fixtures before the league splits into two for the final five games of the campaign. After Motherwell's Barry Maguire cancelled out Kyle Lafferty's opener after just one minute, second-half goals from Rory McKenzie, Chris Burke and Mitch Pinnock secured a much-needed win for the hosts. The bottom three are now separated by just two points with Kilmarnock sandwiched between Ross County in 10th and Hamilton at the foot of the table. League Cup winners St Johnstone sealed the final place in the top six thanks to a late winner from on-loan Rangers winger Glenn Middleton to earn a 1-0 win over Ross County. The Perth Saints leapfrogged St Mirren as they conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Hamilton. Kyle Munro's last-minute equaliser was not enough to prevent the Accies falling to the bottom of the table due to Kilmarnock's win. Hibernian opened up a seven-point lead over Aberdeen in the battle for third despite being held 1-1 at Livingston. Aberdeen lost 1-0 at Dundee United in the Dons' first match since Derek McInnes's eight-year stay as manager came to an end. Champions Rangers will aim to rub salt into Celtic's wounds when they face off in the third Old Firm clash of the season at Celtic Park on Sunday. kca/jc
