  • Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas rejected US President Donald Trump's peace plan Tuesday after he said Jerusalem would remain Israel's "undivided capital". "We reject this deal. We won't accept any substitute for Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state," senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya told AFP. "We warn the whole world not to go along with this deal because we reject it as the Palestinian people and we will resist it in all forms," he said. Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip and has fought three wars with Israel since 2008, was expected to reject the deal. Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas was to react later Tuesday after an emergency meeting in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank to which Hamas was also invited. Trump unveiled the plan in Washington alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with no Palestinians in attendance. The proposal constituted a radical shakeup of the traditional contours of a peace deal, including recognising Israeli sovereignty over settlements and full control over Jerusalem.
