| - A Czech court on Tuesday ordered into custody the suspect in an arson incident last weekend which left 11 people dead, the police said on Twitter. Six people, including three children, died in the blaze while five others jumped to their deaths trying to escape the fire in the northeastern Czech city of Bohumin, 300 kilometres (190 miles) east of Prague. "The man was taken into custody by a judge of the district court in Karvina," the tweet said. The 54-year-old man, who was charged with murder on Monday, allegedly set fire to the door of an apartment on the 11th floor of a block of flats. The man, who already has a criminal record, faces a possible life sentence. Police suspected arson from the beginning, and on Sunday they said they had found traces of a flammable substance near the apartment door. Ten people, including two firefighters and a police officer, were also injured. Czech media said the man ignited the fire following family disputes and that several of the victims were his relatives. The family that died in the fire was reportedly holding a birthday party attended by 15 people, four of whom saved themselves by climbing over to the balcony of the next-door neighbours. frj/dt/pma
