The London and Melbourne based company aims for a 15 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 from 2018 levels and said it harboured an "ambition for net zero emissions from our operations by 2050." The target will cover Rio's own operations but not emissions from upstream or downstream activities -- so-called scope 3 emissions. The firm -- which does not produce fossil fuels -- said it would spend approximately $1 billion on "climate-related" projects over the next five years. The investment is expected to include efforts to reduce water waste, harness solar and wind energy and to cut pollution from production of aluminium and other products.
