Police nevertheless slapped fines of 600 zloty (130 euros, $145) on some protesters for "illegal assembly". Among those fined, Krzysztof Gorka, the owner of a lighting company with four employees, told AFP that he needs a monthly turnover of 130,000 euros to stay afloat, a revenue that has been decimated during the lockdown. "The government is just making vague promises. It makes it difficult for businesspeople to obtain state aid," he told AFP. "I'd like to contribute (to the fight against the pandemic), but it's difficult in a country that prevents me from doing so." The demonstration on wheels was organised by Pawel Tanajno, a businessman and politician who is an outsider in Poland's May 10 presidential election. Poland's right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) government has drawn up a 47 billion euro "anti-crisis shield" to protect businesses from bankruptcy. It notably provides for the reimbursement of half of the salaries in affected companies and easier access to investment credit.
