  • Fact Check: Video showing railway track laying work is not from India, it is from Malaysia The Indian railway system is one of the largest in the world, catering to the needs of millions of passengers and transporting significant amount of freight across the country. It is undergoing a digital transformation, aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability Claim :The video shows a Railway track being laid in India using fast-track construction technology Fact :The video is from Malaysia, which shows the railway track being laid under the East Coast Rail Link Project, a joint project of Malaysia and China. The Indian railway system is one of the largest in the world, catering to the needs of millions of passengers and transporting significant amount of freight across the country. It is undergoing a digital transformation, aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability. The Indian Railways has adopted digitalization across various spheres of its operations, including passenger information systems, train signaling, ticketing, computerized wagon allocation systems, real-time monitoring, etc. A video showing a railway line being installed using fast-track technology is in circulation with the claim that it shows railway work in India. The video is shared across social media platforms with captions like “Come and see how the railway line is ready with new technology, India” The video is also shared with the claim in Hindi “अब नए भारत में ऐसे बनाया जाता रेल मार्ग”. Fact Check: The claim is False. When we used the keyframes extracted from the video and searched with Google reverse image search, we found that the video was published by a Twitter account named Insight Xiangshan on January 9, 2024, with the caption “Malaysia's East Coast Railway began laying tracks.” When searched further about the Malaysia-China rail project, we found that similar images are shared on the Twitter handle of China Xinhua News with the caption “The East Coast Rail Link #ECRL, a mega rail project in Malaysia being built by the China Communications Construction Company has seen its 1st tracks being laid “ We also found another video news report published by the AP News YouTube channel with the title ‘China-backed Malaysian railway gets on track’. We can see that the equipment in the video is the same as that in the viral video. Here is the comparison. Hence, the viral video does not show railway work in India, it shows track laying work in Malaysia as a part of the Malaysia- China rail project. The claim is False.
