  • Last Updated on November 15, 2022 by Neelam Singh Quick Take A social media post claims hot lemon water treats cancer and is more effective than cold lemon water. We fact-checked and found the claim to be False. Lemon water, either hot or cold, cannot treat cancer. The Claim A Facebook post claims drinking hot lemon water is more beneficial than cold lemon water in treating cancer. Fact Check What does the claimed post say? The claimed post say drinking hot lemon water is more beneficial in treating cancer than cold lemon water. The post mentioned about ‘Dr. Guruprasad Reddy B V, who works at the OSH State Medical University in Moscow, Russia. There is no mention of a doctor with this name in the mentioned university. Also, a simple Google search informed Osh State Medical University is in Kyrgyzstan and not in Russia. What is cancer? Cancer is a disease caused by uncontrolled cell growth that damages the normal functioning of the affected body part and spreads to other regions. Can lemon treat cancer? It does not seem so. The available evidence does not confirm lemon treats cancer. An article published in 2019 shows citrus food, including lemons, contains compounds that may prevent cancer. However, this conclusion has been blown out of proportion by claiming lemon is the most effective cancer remedy. This article also informs that regular consumption of lemons may enhance the body’s ability to fight cancer and better respond to cancer treatment. THIP MEDIA has previously shown that lemons cure cancer is one of the most viral health claims that has some truth and some exaggerations. Can water treat cancer? No. No evidence confirms water treats cancer. Cancer treatment needs a multimodal approach, including surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. This approach nowhere includes water. The only relation we could establish between water and cancer is that water treats indigestion to reduce the risk of cancer in the esophagus. Is hot lemon water more effective than cold lemon water in treating cancer? It does not seem so. No evidence shows hot lemon water is more effective than cold lemon water in treating cancer. Relying solely on home remedies and not seeking proper cancer treatment can worsen the condition to make the disease incurable. Dr. Manish Singhal, Senior Oncologist, Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, in an interview to THIP MEDIA says ‘drinking lemon and water regularly can be a good source of vitamin c and keep people hydrated. This concoction can wash away toxins to make people feel good. Lemon water, either hot or cold, cannot treat cancer’.
