According to the report, Salim, a Muslim taxi driver, killed 250 passengers in a span of four months. The article further says Salim confessed to the crime. The viral report published on June 2 also mentions that "the murdered passengers are mostly non-Muslims and obviously from Hindu community." Some websites published an article about this incident, assuming it to be a recent one. India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the incident is at least 12 years old. Among many websites, Geller Report and dainikbharat.xyz published the news article, describing the same incident. The articles were published on June 2 but there is no mention about the year of the incident. A verified Twitter user, Pamela Geller, shared the article of the Geller Report. Pamela claims herself to be the editor-in-chief of the Geller Report. She shared this article from her Twitter and Facebook accounts which has been shared more than 2,000 times. We found an article in the Times of India dating back to March 2007. According to the article, Meerut police busted a gang of around 35 members suspected to have murdered 250 people since 2003 in various cities of Uttar Pradesh. One of the suspect's name was Salim. At that time, the SSP of Meerut was Dipesh Juneja whose name has also been mentioned in the viral news reports. Our local correspondent also confirmed that the incident happened in 2007.
