This video shows a crowd who had gathered to attend the last rites of Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi in Lucknow.
Jailed gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were shot down in the presence of Uttar Pradesh police personnel and the media on the night of April 15 in Prayagraj. Three men posed as journalists and shot the two brothers from a close range. Days before, on April 13, Atiq’s son Asad and his aide Ghulam were killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Jhansi.
Now, a video of a huge gathering, allegedly shot during Asad’s funeral procession, has gone viral.
A Twitter user sharing the video, wrote in Hindi: “This is a crowd of people who had gathered to attend Atiq Ahmed’s deceased son Asad Ahmed’s funeral. This makes it quite evident that Asad had never exploited people. Otherwise, nobody would come to his funeral, just like nobody came to attend Umesh Pal’s funeral.” The archived version of this post can be seen here.
India Today found that this video doesn’t show the funeral procession of Asad Ahmed but that of Islamic scholar Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi.
Our Probe
Reacting to the viral post, some people pointed out that this video shows the funeral of “Nadvi saheb”.
Next, we ran a reverse search of the viral video’s keyframes and found a longer version of this video on YouTube dated April 14, 2023. The viral video can be seen here at the 2 minutes 20 seconds mark. Per the details mentioned on YouTube, this video showed the last rites of Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi.
The same video was shared on another YouTube channel on April 13 ( https://youtu.be/17phc29D9S0?
On comparing the viral video with this video, one can clearly see the similarities between them.
Many people shared similar visuals of the funeral of Maulana Nadvi and said that it was held in the campus of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow.

WHO WAS MAULANA NADVI?
Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi was the president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and chancellor of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow. He died at the age of 94 on April 13, 2023.
To conclude, the viral video pre-dates Asad Ahmed’s funeral and shows people who had gathered to pay their last respects to Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi in Lucknow.
