  • Fact Check: This is NOT Srinagar's Lal Chowk, Lord Ram's photo on clocktower is from Dehradun Many claimed this clip is from Jammu and Kashmir. India Today found that it's from Uttarakhand. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, not Srinagar. Ahead of the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, a video allegedly from Jammu and Kashmir’e Srinargar is being widely shared. In the video, a photo of Lord Ram can be seen being projected onto a clock tower. According to those sharing the video, it was shot in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk. An X user wrote while sharing the video, “Lal Chowk Srinagar. Beyond fathomable. The Power of your vote to the right Party. Jai Shree Ram.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today found that this video is from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, not Jammu and Kashmir. Our Probe Responding to the viral tweet, many people pointed out that this video showed Ghantaghar in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Subsequently, a search with relevant keywords led us to the Facebook page of Punjab Kesari Uttarakhand, which shared a snippet of the video on January 19, calling the tower Dehradun’s Ghantaghar. We also found that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also shared a similar video on X on January 14, saying: “Residents listening to Ram Bhajan at Ghantaghar, Dehradun. From today, cultural programs, special puja, kirtan and cleanliness campaigns in temples have started with public participation in the entire state.” We then compared the images of Dehradun’s Ghantaghar and Lal Chowk, Srinagar with the viral video. This proved without a doubt that the video was shot in Dehradun. We also found several news outlets reported about how Lord Ram’s photo was projected onto the clocktower in Dehradun. It is noteworthy that on January 18, a clock tower in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk was illuminated with tricolour lighting ahead of India’s Republic Day. The news agency ANI shared a video of this. Journalist Ashraf Wani of Aaj Tak’s Srinagar bureau also confirmed that this video was not from the city. He added that photos of Lord Ram had not been projected onto towers there. Thus, it’s clear that this video is not from Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
