  • Last Updated on December 21, 2022 by Neelam Singh Quick Take A social media post claims home remedies can replace angioplasty or bypass surgery. We fact-checked and found the claim to be Half True. The Claim A Facebook post claims eating lemon, ginger, garlic, and apple cider vinegar can remove the need for angioplasty and bypass surgery. This social media post has 702 shares till we last checked. Fact Check What is angioplasty? Angioplasty is a medical procedure for opening a blocked vein. The process involves using a balloon to stretch open a blocked artery. The modern procedure can also involve inserting a stent during the procedure to help the blood flow freely. What is bypass surgery? Bypass surgery provides a new vein for blood flow when a vein is blocked that reaches the heart. The procedure involves taking a healthy vein from the leg, arm, or chest and connecting it below or above the blocked vein. Can lemon, ginger, garlic, and apple cider vinegar remove the blockage in veins? Not enough evidence. The available research papers only suggest lemon, garlic, apple cider vinegar, and ginger have curative properties that do not allow plaque formation in veins. However, it is not clear whether these food items can remove already-formed plaque in the veins completely. As these food items are common household ingredients, their regular intake highlights the importance of a healthy routine diet to prevent blockage in the heart. Diet is often linked with removing blockage in veins. THIP MEDIA has previously fact-checked pomegranate unclog arteries and grapefruit remove all plaque from arteries. Can home remedies replace angioplasty or bypass surgery? Not exactly. Home remedies cannot replace angioplasty or bypass surgery. Home remedies may prevent blockage in the veins and never arise the chance of developing the need for angioplasty or bypass surgery. However, this does not always hold correctly in every case. Blockage in veins due to plaque can occur because of a family history of early heart disease, eating an unhealthy diet, disease or illness, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, and other tobacco use. People with blocked veins must never rely only on home remedies for their treatment. Angioplasty and bypass surgery can immediately treat blocked veins to save lives.
