  • A request for fact-checking a video has been sent to Digiteye India on its WhatsApp tipline. The video consisted of a visual in which a mobile phone receives a call from 777888999 and when the man picks it up, it was shown as a blast happened in the room and the next scene shows him on stretcher in a hospital with blood on his mouth and other parts of his body. See the video here: The message said, “777888999 don’t pick the call from this no. If you pick mobile will blast. Pls. Share it”. FACT CHECK Digiteye India took up the fact-checking and at the very first glance, the number showed 9 digits and not 10 as mobile phone number should consist of 10 digits in India. Though nine digit numbers exist in foreign countries, when the call is received it comes with a prefix of the country code. Hence, there’s no way someone can receive a call from this 9-digit number. Google search reveals that there are many such hoax messages debunked already and there’s no need to react to them as media has covered extensively on such hoaxes since 2017. Secondly, a mobile can heat up to even blast due to some faulty battery while charging, not because of the call from a number. Claim: Don’t answer a call on mobile from 777888999 as it may lead to the blast of your phone. Conclusion: False. Every mobile number should have 10 digits, not nine in India. Rating: Misleading —
