  • Fact Check: Bilawal Bhutto seen celebrating Imran Khan's arrest? No, this video is from 2022 India Today's investigation found that the video from April 2022, and predates the current political crisis by a year Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from April 2022 when Imran Khan was ousted as prime minister. Violent protests erupted in Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. At least eight people have died and hundreds have been injured so far. While Khan was granted bail on May 12, in the immediate aftermath of the arrest, a video of Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and Foreign Affairs Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari celebrating with his supporters went viral. In the video, PPP supporters could be heard sloganeering, and Zardari could be seen joining them. Allegedly, they were celebrating Khan’s arrest. A Twitter user while sharing the viral video wrote,“Cabal of crooks having fun after Khan Saab’ arrest... your days are doomed, soon or later we’ll get back to you.” The archived version of the tweet can be seen here: India Today’s investigation found that the video from April 2022, and predates the current political crisis by a year. National Health Minister of Pakistan Abdul Qadir Patel and Zardari were then celebrating the ouster of Khan as prime minister. Our Probe We ran a reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video and found a slightly older tweet containing the video. The tweet from April 10, 2023, said in Urdu: “Moments of celebration from April 9, 2022, when my Chairman showed a fascist captain the way to the Pavilion.” On April 9, 2022, Khan was ousted as Pakistan’s prime minister after losing a no-confidence vote in Parliament, following long political impasse. We, then, found the viral video on the YouTube channel of PPP leader and current Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel. The video was shared on April 8, 2022, when the no-trust motion was brought against Khan. Its description read, “Ragre pe ragra, Abdul Qadir Patel Celebrating With Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.” Thus, it's clear that an old video, which predates the current turbulent political crisis in Pakistan, was shared with a misleading claim.
