| - A video of a man performing the song 'Neele Gagan Ke Tale' from the 1967 Hindi film 'Hamraz', originally sung by the late playback singer Mahendra Kapoor, has gone viral on social media.
The claim: The video is being shared with the following text –
"After 55 years Mahendra Kapoor's grandson Siddhant Kapoor sang the same song sung by his Grandfather from the film HUMRAZ (1967) in a voice very similar to that of the original... (sic)"
How did we find out the truth?: We noticed a comment under the claim, which said that the person in the video was Vaibhav Vashishtha.
Next, we ran a reverse image search on the video using Google Lens.
This took us to a verified YouTube channel with Vaibhav Vashishtha's name, who had shared the same video in May 2013.
We looked for Mahendra Kapoor's grandson, Sidhanth Kapoor, on social media and found his Instagram account.
On comparing Kapoor's photo to Vashishta's image, we could confirm that the viral video indeed shows Vashishtha.
The Quint has reached out to Vashishtha's team and will update this report with their inputs as and when we receive them.
Conclusion: A video of Vaibhav Vashishtha's performance is being shared with the false claim that it shows Mahendra Kapoor's grandson, Sidharth Kapoor performing.
