A Facebook user shared the viral video of the residential complex flooded with blood and wrote, “Warning: If you can see it, then see it, otherwise delete it without opening it. Scene of celebrating Bakrid in Bengal. More than 200 cows were slaughtered in front of this residential complex.” Its archive can be seen here.

Our Probe
We closely examined the video and noticed the watermark “Ashwini Sahay”. Using this information and a keyword search, we found the viral video on the X account with the same username, shared on July 1, 2023. According to the tweet, the video shows Bakrid celebrations in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
We then spoke to Bangladesh journalist Shahid Hasan Khan, who said that such buildings are a common sight in the Mirpur area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Following this, we searched for residential societies in Mirpur and found a picture of multi-storey buildings in a report in the Bangladeshi news portal Protham Alo.
The buildings in the report closely resembled those seen in the viral video. The report identified the buildings as part of the Shopnonagar Residential Project in Mirpur 9, Dhaka. On further searches on Google Maps for the Shopnonagar Residential Project we found buildings matching those in the viral video.
Additionally, we noticed a signage on a white building in the viral video. The signage identified the places as a “Masjid” and a “Community Bhawan” in Bangla. Thereafter, we searched for these terms within the Shopnonagar Residential Project on Google Maps and located the building seen in the video.
Comparing the viral video with photos tagged to this location confirmed that both show the same place.
Although we could not confirm the exact date and context of the video, it is more than clear that it is not from West Bengal.
