  • A rumor that Academy Award-winning actor and comedian Jamie Foxx accused music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs of "poisoning" him, and that Foxx then reported Combs to the FBI The claim first appeared online in early October 2024, including dozens of TikTok videos. In late November 2024, the claim regained popularity thanks to a discussion on "Episode #2236" of "The Joe Rogan Experience," which occurs about 1 hour and 34 minutes into the episode. (@TheChiefNerd on X) One user responding to a post on X and sharing the clip theorized, "Diddy was part of an intelligence operation much like Another person posted, "Wouldn't [sic] surprised if Diddy did it to Jamie but also wouldn't be surprised [sic] Jamie using it as a marketing plan for he Netflix special [sic]." The rumor stemmed from tapings of Foxx's upcoming Netflix comedy special, "What Had Happened Was," in Atlanta on Oct. 3, 4 and 5, 2024, according to an Instagram post from the comedian. Snopes reached out to Foxx's publicists for comment on this claim and will update this story if we hear back. Until then, we've rated the claim that Combs poisoned Foxx, who then turned him in to the FBI, as unfounded. The only "evidence" offered is anecdotal accounts of Foxx's comments, as told by alleged attendees of the tapings. Celebrity gossip website TMZ, meanwhile, reported that comments made during the comedy show were meant as a joke. Finally, no reputable news organizations have reported on such an accusation, which would be highly newsworthy if true. The initial rumor picked up steam when videographer Arthur Alston, who goes by Alston alleged he was present for two of the tapings, and on Oct. 6, 2024, he posted a selfie with Foxx. In the interview, Alston continued, "Jamie Foxx states in the special that Diddy was responsible for what happened to him and he's the one who called the FBI on [Diddy].... I don't think he was joking. Y'all can determine was he joking or not when you see the show… I know when somebody's setting up a punchline and when you're serious." Alston has posted extensively about Combs on his social media and has been featured in numerous videos from Comedy Hype talking about the media mogul, including an accusation that Combs put a hit out on Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. in the '90s. Alston's social media accounts also promoted other conspiracy theories regarding Kamala Harris' ethnic background and Democrats worshipping the devil. On Oct. 14, 2024, Foxx posted a heartfelt message on Instagram about the tapings, making no mention of Combs. The post read, in part: I have to thank you Atlanta you showed up and you showed out, I haven't been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that's what you were . When people ask me is this a stand up comedy show I say no it's an artistic explanation. Of some thing that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta especially piedmont hospital you enabled me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most… It is unknown whether the alleged comments about Combs will make the final cut of the comedy special, but Netflix will release "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was" on Dec. 10, 2024. Snopes has fact-checked numerous stories pertaining to Combs, including claims that Elon Musk threatened Hollywood with 'receipts' of involvement with Diddy, that the FBI revealed Oprah fled the U.S. after "Diddy footage" leaked and that Vice President Kamala Harris and husband, Doug Emhoff, tipped off Diddy before his arrest.
