  • After the hype over Cricket World Cup final match at Ahmedabad on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, many videos and memes started going viral on social media and one such video clip showing a huge gathering with a claim that nearly 1.5 lakh people started chanting Hanuman Chalisa (Prayer invoking Lord Hanuman’s blessings) during the match between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat. 1.5 lakh people chanting Hanuman Chalisa will surely give you goosebumps 🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/3gFwNdphiV — We Hindu (@SanatanTalks) November 20, 2023 It has gone viral and even TV channels showed the clip with a similar claim in its report. See the post here and here. FACT CHECK When the tip reached us on WhatsApp, we searched social media and found that it was shared widely on Twitter as well. Taking a few key frames from the clip, we checked on Google Reverse Image Search to find a video of singer Darshan Raval performing at the same stadium with the big screen showing him prominently as marked in the image below. When looked for the event on Google Search, the results led us to singer Darshan Raval performing at the India-Pakistan match to the mammoth crowd seen in the stadium. This match was held on Oct. 14, 2023 and the video was uploaded on Oct. 16, 2023 on Youtube. See the original video here too. The video can also be seen here and the singer was not chanting the Hanuman Chalisa but performing during the break in the India-Pakistan match that was held on Oct. 14, 2023 at the same stadium as a part of the World Cup 2023 matches. The following Instagram post validates it further: View this post on Instagram Hence, the video’s sound track was altered to make it sound like Hanuman Chalisa being chanted by 1.5 lakh people. Claim: A viral video shows huge gathering chanting Hanuman Chalisa during the final World Cup match between India and Australia. Conclusion: False, the video’s sound track was altered with Hanuman Chalisa. Rating: Misrepresentation —
