  • Fact Check: Viral Video Linked To Iranian Attack on US Al Udeid Military Base in Qatar Is AI-Generated The viral video claiming to show an Iranian attack on the Al Udeid US military base in Qatar is AI-generated. By: Sharad Prakash Asthana - Published: Mar 20, 2026 at 01:17 PM - New Delhi (Vishvas News). As the conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran continues into its third week, a dramatic video has gone viral on social media. The footage depicts people and vehicles in a state of chaos, followed by individuals fleeing in panic after an apparent explosion. Users are circulating this clip with claims that it shows a recent Iranian missile strike on the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral video is not authentic but was, in fact, generated using AI. What is the Viral Post? On March 17, 2026, Instagram user ‘thenewscartel’ posted the video (archive link) with the following caption: “Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar – March 16, 2026: Yesterday (March 16, 2026), Iran launched a ballistic missile and drone attack on Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base (located near Doha; the largest US military base in the Middle East). This was a retaliation for US-Israel attacks in Tehran. The Qatar Ministry of Defence officially confirmed the incident: Multiple missiles and drones were launched from Iran. Qatari air defences successfully intercepted most of them. One missile landed near the base or in an uninhabited area, resulting in no casualties and no major damage. Sounds of explosions were heard in Doha, and smoke was visible in the sky.” This post has garnered approximately 1.5 million views. Investigation To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we closely examined the video. In the footage, one individual is seen walking backwards, while another appears to vanish and then reappear. Furthermore, as people begin to flee, their body shapes appear to distort. These anomalies led us to suspect that the video was likely AI-generated. We then analysed the video using Tencent’s ‘Zhuque AI’ video detection tool, which estimated an approximately 80% probability that the content was AI-generated. Hive Moderation assessed around 57% probability that it was AI-generated. For further verification, we shared the video with our partner, the ‘Deepfakes Analysis Unit’ (DAU), an initiative of the ‘Trusted Information Alliance’ (TIA). Their analysis of the screenshots using ‘AI or Not’ indicated a 92% probability that it was AI-generated. This conclusively proves that the viral video was created with the assistance of AI tools. What is the Context? On March 4, 2026, the Qatar Ministry of Defence posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, reporting an attack on Qatar’s Al Udeid military base. According to the post, two Iranian ballistic missiles targeted Qatar. The air defence system successfully intercepted one missile, while the second missile struck the Al Udeid base; however, the incident resulted in no casualties or damage. Meanwhile, Iran’s state media, Press TV, has reported dozens of waves of strikes (the 57th wave on March 17, 2026) targeting US and Israeli assets across the Middle East. According to an update published on the Al Jazeera website on March 19, 2026, US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that any further strikes on Qatar would destroy the South Pars gas field. This follows a significant Iranian retaliatory strike on Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, which has impacted global energy prices. The Instagram account that posted the AI-generated video has over 38,000 followers and has been active since March 2025..
