  • Fact Check: Pakistan's Foreign Minister heckled at the US airport? Here is the complete story The video dates back to October 2022, when Ishaq Dar was Pakistan's Finance Minister. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video dates back to October 2022, and shows the then Finance Minister Dar being heckled at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC by some unidentified overseas Pakistanis. A video purportedly showing Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar being heckled at an airport is going around social media. Dar appears agitated, and another person in his entourage verbally attacks the heckler with foul language. While sharing this clip on X, many took digs at the Pakistani minister with captions like: "Royal welcome of Pakistan Foreign Minister in the USA. Proud moment for South Asia." The same was shared on Facebook and Instagram as well. India Today Fact Check found that the video is more than two years old, from October 2022, when Ishaq Dar was the Finance Minister of Pakistan. OUR PROBE Reverse-searching keyframes from the viral clip led us to a Hindustan Times video report uploaded to YouTube on October 14, 2022. Titled, "Pak minister Ishaq Dar called 'thief' in the US; High drama at Washington Airport,” the video’s description mentioned that he was the country's finance minister at the time of this incident. It was further mentioned when Ishaq Dar landed at an airport in Washington DC. Dar was greeted with chants of “chor” or “thief” by unidentified overseas Pakistanis. Subsequent searches led us to a Dawn report dated October 13, 2022, that noted the altercation took place at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC. Reportedly, Dar went to the States ahead of important meetings with global lending institutions. Reportedly, he visited the International Monetary Fund office there. Notably, these reports mentioned Dar as the Finance Minister of Pakistan and not the Foreign Minister. According to the official National Assembly of Pakistan website, Dar is right now the Foreign Affairs Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of the nation. He also held the chair of the Finance Minister of Pakistan in several phases, from September 2022 to August 2023, when Anwaar-ul-Haq took over as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan. Thus, it is clear that the video is not recent and has been shared without proper context. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
