  • Fact check: No, viral video does not show floods in city of Dubai The video was also telecasted in one of the programs in Telugu local TV, mentioning that floods have drowned the country of Dubai. A video of flood water gushing onto the streets, drowning all the shops and houses is going viral with the narrative that "Dubai is flooded due to heavy rains". The video was also telecasted in one of the programs in Telugu local TV, mentioning that floods have drowned the country of Dubai. Few other users also shared the same video with the caption "Dubai Floods". https://www.facebook.com/reel/1232874427506970 Fact Check: The claim that the video shows floods in Dubai city is MISLEADING. Firstly, Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates and the floods due to heavy rains occurred in various parts of UAE, but Dubai is not one of them. There were no floods in Dubai. When the extracted keyframes (Using Invid tool) from the video were searched Google reverse image search, we found that the video shows flood situation in Fujairah city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and not Dubai. According to an NDTV report, in a rare occurrence, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was hit by heavy rain, resulting in flooding in many areas. Several videos surfaced on social media that showed people being rescued from Sharjah and Fujairah by rescuers. The two cities are badly affected - particularly Fujairah due to its mountainous terrain and valleys. People living in Dubai and Abu Dhabi reported considerably less rain. According to livemint.com, Fujairah has been one of the most impacted, after receiving the highest amount of rainfall the country has seen in 27 years. Several videos have surfaced on social media of the submerged cars and shops in Fujairah. The National News reported that 870 people were rescued by emergency teams after flash floods. Overall 3,897 people have been placed in temporary shelters in Sharjah and Fujairah. The UAE military joined rescue operations in Fujairah after torrential rainfall. The article also shared the viral video. https://www.livemint.com/news/world/uae-floods-roads-swamped-in-2-ft-of-water-cars-shops-float-watch-11659100224620.html Major damage occurred in the cities of Sharjah, Fujairah etc and cities like Abu Dhabi, Dubai reported considerably less rainfall. Exhibiting the aftermath of floods in Fujairah, a different video shows the entire city badly damaged due to flooding. Many vehicles can be seen lying upside down on the sides of the roads. https://www.news18.com/news/buzz/watch-cars-float-under-gushing-water-as-floods-wreak-havoc-in-uae-5653579.html Hence, the video shows the flood situation in the city of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates and NOT the flood in the city of Dubai. The claim is MISLEADING.
