  • A video showing podcaster and content creator Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, getting emotional on camera has gone viral on social media. The claim: Users have claimed that it shows Allahbadia crying and talking about his work being impacted after a recent controversy surrounding a statement he made on comedian Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent. (Archived versions of more such claims can be seen here, here, and here.) But...?: The viral claim is false. This video dates back to April 2021 and shows the podcaster getting emotional after he contracted the COVID-19 virus, which in turn prevented him from working. How did we find out the truth?: We ran a reverse image search on the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to a video on Allahbadia's verified YouTube channel, titled 'This Is NOT Clickbait - My Covid-19 Experience | Vlog 24,' which was published on 7 April 2021. This video began with Allahbadia undergoing several medical tests. About 30 seconds into the video, one can see the part of the clip that went viral on social media. He began by telling people that he had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus that morning. "Hello guys. I found out this morning that I tested positive for COVID. I feel bad because all my work has stopped (expletive). I just feel damn guilty. I've exposed the whole team to it and all our work has stopped because of me. I don't want to vlog this, but if I don't vlog, we won't have videos to upload, right? I'll have to live a lockdown-style life for 14 days. I just want to get better, man. I want to work."Ranveer Allahbadia talking about him testing positive for COVID-19 in 2021. The controversy: Allahbadia appeared alongside other content creators on comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina's adult comedy show, 'India's Got Latent' and ask one of the contestants a crass question. After a clip of his interaction with the contestant went viral on social media, people began calling for action against Raina and Allahbadia. The backlash included comments by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis calling for action against the creators, saying that while he had not watched the clip, he had learnt that the contents were 'very vulgar'. Amid public outrage against the clip, Allahbadia published an apology video expressing regret for his actions. Conclusion: An old video of Ranveer Allahbadia is being shared with the false claim that it shows a recent video he shared amid the controversy surrounding his statements on 'India's Got Latent'.
