A video shared on Twitter allegedly shows a man jumping out a building’s window during the Feb. 6 earthquake in Turkey. 😱In desperation, people jump himself from the building for fear that building will collapse due to #Turkey M7.8 powerful #Earthquake#TurkeyEarthquake #seism #earthquake #tremor #Syria #Turkish #Lebanon@beenasarwar @ChaudharyParvez @asiyaansar @ragipsoylu @asmashirazi pic.twitter.com/mWPiayrNj8 — Dileep kumar khatri (@DileepKumarPak) February 6, 2023 Verdict: False The video, which dates back to 2022, shows a man jumping out a window to escape a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Duzce. The video is not from the Feb. 6 earthquake that struck the country. Fact Check: Approximately 37,000 people are reportedly dead following an earthquake Feb. 6, with officials fearing the toll could be much higher, according to Reuters. A 10-day-old baby boy and his mother were among the survivors of the Feb. 6 earthquake that were rescued, BBC News reported. The Twitter post, viewed over 9,00 times, appears to show people fleeing a building before a man falls from a great height onto the ground. “In desperation, people jump himself from the building for fear that building will collapse due to #Turkey M7.8 powerful #Earthquake,” the post purports. The claim is false. A reverse image search found the video dates back to a 2022 earthquake in Duzce, Turkey. The man, identified as Cagdas Lacin, broke both of his arms after jumping out a third-story window, according to the Turkish version of The Independent. The earthquake injured 46 people, including Lacin, the outlet reported. Another iteration of the video, shared online by Dailymotion, also indicated the video was taken in 2022. The video has not been included in any credible news reports about the recent earthquake in Turkey. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Footage Of The Recent Earthquake In Turkey?)
