  • The former MP called this information nonsense — he is currently in Kyiv. A number of pro-Russian sources published news that on November 21, former MP Mustafa Nayem was allegedly arrested in the Afghan province of Nangarhar for attempting to illegally cross the border. Propagandists speculate that he may be imprisoned, extradited to Russia, or even executed — and also suggest that the purpose of the visit was intelligence activities or drug transportation. No sources of information are mentioned in the publications, citing abstract «sources in the Taliban». The original source of the news about Mustafa Nayem’s detention was the Telegram channel «Sheikh Tamir», run by propagandist Maksim Shikhaliyev — interestingly, he soon deleted his own publication. However, this news is completely fabricated. We managed to contact Mustafa Nayem in the messenger, where he responded almost instantly. The former MP called the news «nonsense» and explained that he had not traveled anywhere and was currently in Kyiv. Given the lack of any evidence of his stay in Afghanistan, as well as immediate response to our request, we concluded that the report about Mustafa Nayem’s detention by the Taliban is not grounded in reality. It is also significant that the news appeared on Russian resources on the eleventh anniversary of the beginning of the Revolution of Dignity — it was Mustafa Nayem’s post on Twitter (now X) that became one of the catalysts for the beginning of the protests. In their publications, propagandists called Nayem the «godfather» and «initiator» of Euromaidan. Thus, it is evident that with such fakes, Russian propaganda is trying to discredit the Revolution of Dignity and the personalities associated with it.
