Fact Check:
Several media reports emerged about the mass killing of Afghan refugees by Iranian forces as they attempted to enter the country illegally from Pakistan.
For further investigation, we used Google reverse image search on the image shared by social media users. We also noticed the writing that appears on the image. The name "Edhi" is written in both English and Urdu on a white cloth, referencing the Edhi Foundation, a charitable organization that provides ambulance services in Pakistan. Furthermore, the shared image is actually from a different recent incident that took place in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
Excelsior News channel has published a short video depicting dead people of the Balochistan incident, the picture has been used as the thumbnail in the video.
A well-known human rights advocate and social media activist in Balochistan, Mahrang Baloch, also published a similar picture of the laborers killed in the October 10 incident on her X page, and wrote:
"The brutal murder of 20 poor miners in Duki last night is yet another dark reminder that Balochistan has become a completely lawless land. Nobody—from poor laborers to ordinary working people to political activists—is safe here. As the conflict grows uglier, the likelihood of increased military presence, money in the name of security operations, and corruption rises. My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by last night's tragedy."
An Urdu language news channel also published the same picture and wrote:
“20 workers were killed and 7 others were injured in an attack by unknown people on a coal mine in Dhaka district of Balochistan”
