Fact Check
Should you consume hydrogen peroxide to treat AIDS and herpes?
No. There is no scientific evidence to confirm that hydrogen peroxide can treat AIDS or herpes. An article published in Science Daily in 2006 shows that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement in 1989 to warn consumers against using hydrogen peroxide products that are promoted illegally as an effective treatment for AIDS and cancer.
Poison.org website informs that food grade contains 35 per cent hydrogen peroxide. Despite its name, food grade can cause serious internal burns if swallowed. Ingesting hydrogen peroxide in large amounts can also cause serious health problems that need immediate doctor attention.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is water with an extra oxygen molecule. This compound is often used as a mouth rinse or teeth whitener when used in low concentrations.
Food-grade peroxide is used for processing and bleaching certain foods and can be toxic if it is inhaled, ingested, or comes into contact with skin.
