  • Authors Claim Social media users are sharing a video allegedly showing recent floods in Pakistan. Many other users also shared the same video, claiming to be from Pakistan. You can se such posts here, here and here. The video was also carried by some media houses including Turkish paper Haberturk and Polish news website Planeta. Fact Newschecker with the help of InVid tool searched the keyframes of the same video and found that dailymail.co.uk has reported Pakistan floods in 2016 carrying the same video. We also found the same video on a video platform dailymotion.com published 6 years ago. The caption in the video reads “Shocking video footage has captured the moment a group aboard a bus escaped with their lives when it was washed away in a raging torrent. The vehicle was travelling along the perilous Karakoram Highway, which bridges the gap between China and Pakistan”. During the investigation we conducted a search on the keywords ‘ٖFloods in Pakistan’ on Facebook. We found the same video shared by a page ‘Sarkari Naukri in Hindi’ with a caption in Hindi, which translates as “Weak hearted don’t watch this video”. The video was shared on July 26, 2017. Link to the video here Pertinently, the recent floods have left a humanitarian crisis in mainly four provinces of Pakistan. The floods have left over 1000 people dead and nearly 3,00,000 houses destroyed, numerous roads rendered impassable and electricity outages have been widespread. We conclude that the viral video claimed to be of recent floods is actually captured during the 2016 floods in Pakistan. Result: Partly False Our Sources Report by dailymail.co.uk, Dated April 12, 2016. Report by dailymotion.com, published 6 Years ago.
