| - A video which seems to show standup comic Samay Raina crying is going viral on social media platforms as a recent incident amid the ongoing controversy related to his show on YouTube.
An Instagram user posted the clip suggesting that it shows Raina apologising and crying after the controversy.
(Archives of similar such posts can be found here, here, and here.)
What is the truth?: The claim is false. The original video dates back to 17 June 2024 and shows Raina promoting and talking about the show House of the Dragon being premiered on the 'Jio Cinema' application.
How did we find that out?: Team WebQoof went through the official Instagram handle of the standup comic and found the longer version of the viral clip uploaded on 17 June 2024.
The original video had been heavily clipped and put together in a way to hide all the references of the show House of the Dragon as well as the mention of Jio Cinema application.
In the clip, Raina could be heard saying, "Friends, my name is Samay Raina. I suffer from this condition called 'Spoilerophobia'. It started with Game of Thrones and continued with House of the Dragon. I got late while watching these and others came and spoiled them for me."
The video was posted with a caption that translated to, "How did you like the first episode of House of the Dragon S2. Comment WITHOUT SPOILERS! Go watch on JioCinema Premium, in your language!."
How did Raina respond to the controversy?: Responding to the backlash, Raina had shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle saying that he has removed all the episodes of his show from YouTube.
The post that was shared on 12 February added, " I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you."
Conclusion: It is evident that an old and edited video is being shared to falsely claim that it shows Samay Raina crying and apologising after the recent controversy.
