  • FACT CHECK: No, Scholastic Book Fairs Are Not Selling “Conversations With God” Books In 2023 A post shared on Facebook claims “Conversations with God” books are being sold at Scholastic book fairs. Verdict: False There is no truth to the claim. A spokesperson confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that these books are not currently offered in any of its book clubs or book fairs. Fact Check: The Oklahoma chapter of Moms for Liberty is pushing for Scholastic Book Fairs to be removed from schools, according to local outlet Koco News. The moms said they hope to find a different vendor for future book fairs as they believe Scholastic is “indoctrinating” children, the outlet reported. A Facebook post claims a series of controversial books called “Conversations with God” by Neale D. Walsch is being sold at Scholastic Book Fairs. The post shared an image of the books with covers that feature nature. “We want to alert and warn parents and grandparents about this series of books ‘Conversations with God’ being sold through Scholastic Book Fairs. Very deceptively titled,” the post reads. The post makes numerous other claims, including saying the books are from God’s point of view but are “contrary to His Word.” The post also mentions a section where God tells a girl who identifies as a lesbian that she was “born that way.” The post is inaccurate, however. The books cannot be found in a list for Scholastic’s fall 2023 book fairs. (RELATED: Did Republican State Senators Participate In A Book Burning?) “Conversations with God for Teens was offered through Scholastic’s Inspiring Words Book Clubs during the 2001-2002 school year,” a Scholastic spokesperson told Check Your Fact in an email. “Since that time, Scholastic has not offered Conversations with God for Teens through its Book Clubs or Book Fairs.”
