  • Quick Take A social media post claims that drinking a specific juice can help Indians achieve ‘glass skin’ in just 30 days. We fact checked and found the claim to be Mostly False. The Claim An Instagram video post by the account dr.wellness_ai suggests that consuming a Korean drink made from pomegranate, tomato, beetroot, and carrot can help Indians achieve ‘glass skin’ in just 30 days. Fact Check What does Korean-like skin mean? ‘Korean glass skin’ is a skincare trend focused on achieving exceptionally clear, smooth, and luminous skin that looks nearly translucent. This look is created through a dedicated skincare regimen that prioritises hydration, exfoliation, and sun protection, resulting in a dewy and flawless appearance. The term originated in South Korea, renowned for its cutting-edge beauty industry and intricate skincare routines. This concept has become popular worldwide due to its promise of achieving perfect, nearly poreless skin. Can Indians get Korean-like skin? To some extent. However, one shouldn’t forget that it isn’t a standard for everyone. Each person’s skin is different by dint of their genetics, environment, and lifestyle. This glass skin that the world is talking about looks dewy, with luminous complexion which requires dedicated skincare routines that include cleansing, exfoliation, toning, serums, and moisturisers. We consulted Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dermatologist at Amrita Hospital in Faridabad. He said it will be very tough for most Indians to acquire the look because plenty of factors work against it. Indian skin types are, at times much thicker or oilier and don’t even seem glassy by nature, and environmental issues like pollution and sun rays might have also damaged the surface of the skin. Dr Aseem Sharma, DNB (Dermatology), MBA & FMUHS (Trichology & Hair Disorders), Mumbai said, “Internet is saturated with home remedies like toothpaste, lemon, and caustic soda that claim to be quick fixes for acne and pigmentation. Unfortunately, these can lead to serious issues, including first-degree burns. Additionally, unqualified individuals often pose as healthcare experts online, offering harmful or ineffective treatments. It’s crucial to seek professional advice before trying any new remedies. I always advise my patients to adopt a holistic approach to treating skin conditions. This includes not only external treatments but also making lifestyle changes, ensuring adequate rest, maintaining a healthy diet, improving nutrition, and relying on trustworthy sources of information.” Does the consumption of pomegranate, beetroot and carrot make your skin glow in 30 days? Achieving a radiant complexion is a common goal in skincare, and the combination of pomegranate, beetroot, and carrot offers intriguing potential benefits. Each of these ingredients contributes uniquely to skin health, promoting a luminous appearance. Pomegranate It is renowned for its rich antioxidant content, including punicalagins and vitamin C. These antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals, combat oxidative stress, and reduce signs of premature ageing. Additionally, pomegranate possesses anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritation, promoting an even skin tone. It also stimulates collagen production, enhancing skin elasticity and reducing fine lines, while its hydrating juice helps maintain moisture levels for a plump, youthful look. Beetroot It is often overlooked, beet root is a nutrient powerhouse packed with vitamins A, C, and K, alongside folate and manganese. Its high vitamin C content supports collagen production and skin repair. Moreover, beetroot helps detoxify the blood and improves circulation, bringing vital oxygen and nutrients to the skin, resulting in a natural rosy glow. Its anti-inflammatory effects reduce redness and irritation, making it ideal for sensitive skin. Carrots Carrots are celebrated for their beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A—essential for skin cell turnover and regeneration. This process brightens the complexion and may provide some protection against UV rays, complementing sun safety strategies. Carrots also hydrate and nourish the skin, enhancing elasticity and combating oxidative stress. Tomatoes They are a powerhouse for skin health, packed with lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that protects against sun damage. Lycopene can reduce redness and enhance skin texture, leading to a smoother complexion. They also provide vitamins C and E, which aid in collagen production and hydration. The natural acidity of tomatoes helps balance oil production, making them beneficial for acne-prone skin. However, we couldn’t find direct research on their use for achieving glowing skin; instead, we found one study focused on the benefits of golden tomatoes for skin health. While each of these ingredients has its merits, the specific blend of pomegranate, beetroot, and carrot is not commonly found in skincare formulations or diets online. However, the trend of combining superfoods in innovative ways is reminiscent of Korean skincare practices, which emphasise holistic, natural ingredients to achieve radiant skin. Korean skincare is often lauded for its multi-step routines that focus on hydration, nourishment, and protection. While this particular combination lacks scientific backing, it reflects the broader principles of Korean beauty: using natural ingredients to enhance skin health from within. The emphasis is on achieving a luminous complexion through both topical applications and dietary choices. What are the side effects of drinking beetroot, carrot, tomato, and pomegranate juice daily? Drinking beetroot, carrot, tomato, and pomegranate juice daily may also lead to some side effects, especially if consumed in excess. Here are some potential side effects to consider: Beetroot Juice - Red Urine/Stool: Known as beeturia, this harmless condition results from the pigments in beetroot and can cause temporary colour changes in urine or stool. - Low Blood Pressure: Beetroot can significantly lower blood pressure, which may be problematic for individuals with hypotension. - Digestive Issues: Some individuals may experience gas, bloating, or diarrhoea due to the high fibre content and naturally occurring sugars. Tomato Juice - Acidic Effects: The acidity in tomato juice may lead to heartburn, acid reflux, or upset stomach, particularly in sensitive individuals. - Allergic Reactions: Rarely, some individuals may experience allergic reactions, including itching, swelling, or digestive distress. Pomegranate Juice - Digestive Issues: Some people may experience stomach upset, gas, or diarrhoea due to its fibre and natural sugar content. - Blood Pressure Effects: Pomegranate juice can lower blood pressure, which may be a concern for those with low blood pressure.
