  • Did Hillary Clinton say that she would leave the U.S. if a rumored Jeffrey Epstein client list was released? No, that's not true: As of December 2, 2024, there is no record of Hillary Clinton having made such an announcement on her social media channels or website, and major media outlets did not report such a quote. Court documents naming many of the financier's alleged associates were already unsealed in January 2024. The claim appeared in a post shared to X on November 26, 2024, (archived here) with a caption that read: 🚨BREAKING: Hillary Clinton says she will leave the United States if Elon Musk releases the Epstein Client List. What's your reaction? Below is how the post looked on X at the time of this writing: (Source: X screenshot taken Thurs Nov 27 02:05:34 2024 UTC) There is no evidence of Hillary Clinton having said she would leave the U.S. if Musk released the "Epstein Client List." Long a feature of defamatory social media claims, there is no public record of such a list being witheld by the agencies that investigated the sex offender's crimes. There is, however 950 pages (archived here) of court documents (archived here) already in the public domain, in which the Epstein business and social contacts are named. The records were unsealed in January 2024 (archived here) as part of a civil suit against Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Included in that list are former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The account that shared the claim she will leave the U.S. did not provide any evidence to support Hillary Clinton having made such a statement, such as where or when it was supposedly said or a link to a record. Lead Stories searched Hillary Clinton's social media history and found no such statement. An advanced search of her X account (archived here) returned none that establish Hillary Clinton announced plans to leave the country if the client list was released. Similarly, a search of Hillary Clinton's posts on Facebook for the keywords "Jeffrey Epstein client list" returned many results, none of which show Hillary Clinton said she'll leave the U.S. Using keywords, Lead Stories also searched Google News, an online archive of thousands of reputable media outlets and their reporting (archived here). There's no sign Hillary Clinton ever made such a statement. A search of announcements on The Office of Hillary Rodham Clinton's website (archived here) likewise did not show evidence that Hillary Clinton said she would leave the U.S. if the list were released.
