Video shows Pakistan army’s retaliatory strikes against Iran.

Video dates back to 2018, predates 2024 Pakistan-Iran standoff.
Several social media users are circulating a video, claiming it shows the Pakistan army’s retaliatory strikes against Iran amid the ongoing standoff.
Nine people were reportedly killed in retaliatory air strikes by Pakistan on a border region in Iran’s southeast on Thursday, stoking regional tensions. The development came two days after Iran carried out strikes against “terrorist” targets in Pakistan which left at least two children dead.

Newschecker ran a search for “Pakistan army strikes Iran footage”, which led us to this Hindustan Times report, dated January 18, 2024, stating Pakistan Army’s media wing has released footage of its strikes on Iranian territory, which did not look like the viral video. No major media outlet shared the viral video as footage of the strikes.
Newschecker saw that several users pointed out that it was an old video of an Indian Army training exercise and not related to the recent clash. A further search led us to this Youtube video, dated April 10, 2018, headlined “Indian Army BM-21 Grad Artillery Firing”, with the description reading, “Grad Artillery system mounted on Ashok Leyland truck firing!”. Similar videos can be seen here and here, confirming that the viral video is not of Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes against Iran.
