| - Fact Check: Viral Video of Muslims Joining BJP Is from Assam, Not West Bengal
Claim :
After forming the government, many Muslims joined the West Bengal BJP.Fact :
The claim is false. This video is actually from Assam and has no connection to West Bengal. The West Bengal government has directed police to ensure that loudspeaker sound from religious places and gatherings stays within the venue premises, and that prayer meetings do not block roads or disturb the public except on special occasions.
The instructions were issued by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during his first meeting with senior IPS officers after taking the oath as Bengal’s ninth chief minister on Monday.
Senior police officials, including DGP S. N. Gupta, ADG (Law and Order) Ajay Ranade, and Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, attended the meeting at Nabanna.
The chief minister also asked police to strictly act against illegal coal and sand mining, cattle smuggling, and crimes against women. He reportedly told officers to enforce the law equally across all communities and regions.
Religious leaders welcomed the move and said the rules should be applied fairly and without discrimination.
Amid this, a video is circulating on the internet showing many wearing kurtas and dhotis. Some of them are wearing saffron caps and saffron cloth on their arms.
The user claims that this video is from West Bengal and that after the BJP’s huge-margin victory in the state, many Muslims are joining the party. In the caption shared with the video, the user also claims that Rohingya Muslims are now getting Indian citizenship.
A screenshot of the claim is below.
Fact Check:
The viral video is from Assam, not West Bengal. Hence, the claim that Muslims joined the BJP in West Bengal after the formation of the government is false.
We investigated the above claim and found no evidence that Rohingya individuals have recently been granted Indian citizenship. If any such citizenship had been granted, it would likely have been reported by the media.
We also found out whether several Muslims joined the BJP after the BJP government was formed in West Bengal. However, we did not find any information supporting this claim either.
Similarly, we did not find any update related to this claim on the BJP Minority Morcha website.
Furthermore, we took screenshots from the viral video and conducted a reverse image search.
Upon conducting a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video, we found it in a video report by News18 Assam and North East published on March 27. According to the accompanying Assamese caption, the video is from Patharkandi, Assam.
When we compared the report with the viral video, we found that both videos were of the same incident. This confirms that the video dates back to the election period. Therefore, it is clear that the video was not filmed after the declaration of the election results in West Bengal.
The viral claim that large numbers of Muslims joined the BJP in West Bengal after the formation of the government is false. The video being shared is not from West Bengal but from Assam, and there is no evidence linking it to Muslims joining the BJP in Bengal. Therefore, the claim is false.
