  • Fact Check: Viral News Bulletin Claiming BJP Defeat in Assam via ‘Intelligence Report’ Is a Deepfake Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the claim of an intelligence report predicting a BJP defeat in Assam is fake. The viral video is a deepfake created by syncing AI-generated audio with authentic news visuals to mislead the public. By: Abhishek Parashar - Published: Jan 22, 2026 at 03:54 PM - New Delhi (Vishvas News). As the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approach, an archived video from a leading Hindi news channel has resurfaced, circulating on social media with potentially misleading context. The clip claims that a leaked intelligence report suggests a major electoral setback for the BJP, potentially leading to a change in leadership for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Vishvas News found this claim to be fake in its investigation. No such report has surfaced, and the audio claiming the leak of the ‘intelligence report’ in the viral video is AI-generated. What is viral? Social media user ‘sourav_kundu14‘ shared the viral video (archive link) and wrote, “Intelligence report says that there is a major electoral threat to BJP in Assam; A change in leadership for CM is being considered as a final damage-control move. Himanta Biswa Sarma might be changed!!” This video bulletin was also shared by the official X handle called India With Congress (archive link). Investigation The viral video, a news report from Aaj Tak, claims, citing a leaked ‘intelligence report,’ that the BJP could suffer heavy losses in the Assam assembly elections. A news search did not yield any such report from Aaj Tak, raising suspicions that it might be a deepfake. To verify the authenticity of the clip, we subjected the audio to several advanced deepfake detection tools. Analysis by the Swiss deeptech company Aurigin.AI revealed that the entire 40-second audio track used in this video was AI-generated with a 100% confidence score. For further confirmation, we contacted our partner TIA (formerly MCA), specifically their Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU). They shared analyses from several other detection tools, which also confirm the likelihood of the audio used in this multimedia being AI-generated. Hive Audio’s detection analysis confirms the likelihood of the entire audio used in this video being AI-generated. Another tool, HIYA, also confirms the likelihood of this audio being AI-generated. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators took genuine visuals of Aaj Tak anchor Rajeev Dhoundiyal and overlaid them with a manipulated, AI-generated voiceover to spread misinformation. It is worth noting that the current term of the Assam Legislative Assembly ends in May 2026, so the election process will be completed before that. Assam has a total of 126 seats, and according to various reports and statements by the Chief Minister, the election dates are likely to be announced in late February or early March. The user who shared the viral video has over a thousand followers on Instagram. Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the claim of an intelligence report predicting a BJP defeat in Assam is fake. The viral video is a deepfake created by syncing AI-generated audio with authentic news visuals to mislead the public.
