  • Fact Check: Coconut Water, Olive Oil, and Lemon Cannot Remove Kidney Stones in 3 Days Today’s fast-paced lifestyle, unhealthy food habits, low water intake, and lack of physical activity are increasing the risk of kidney stones among people of all ages. Claim : Coconut water, olive oil, and lemon can remove kidney stones in just three days.Fact : This claim is false. Experts say kidney stones do not usually dissolve or pass within a fixed time, such as 3 days, even with home remedies alone. Treatment and recovery depend on the size and type of the stone.Today’s fast-paced lifestyle, unhealthy food habits, low water intake, and lack of physical activity are increasing the risk of kidney stones among people of all ages. Regular consumption of junk food, soft drinks, and excess salt can affect kidney health over time. Doctors advise drinking enough water, maintaining a balanced diet, and staying active to help reduce the chances of developing kidney stones. Amid this, a video circulated on social media featuring a man sharing a health tip. He claimed that coconut water, olive oil, and lemon can remove kidney stones in just three days. He also said that people can save lakhs in operational expenses by following this advice. You can find the claim link here and a screenshot of the claim below. Fact Check: The claim is False. Experts say kidney stones cannot be removed in just three days using home remedies alone. Proper medical advice is important. While investigating the claim, we consulted Dr. Swasti Tirtha Prayag. The expert said kidney stones are hard mineral deposits formed in the kidneys due to highly concentrated salts and minerals in urine. These stones can lead to serious health complications, including kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes, and heart-related problems. He further explained that treatment depends on the stone's size and location. Common medical procedures include Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL), ureteroscopy, and cystoscopy to break or remove stones. In severe cases, doctors perform percutaneous nephrolithotomy, a minimally invasive surgery to remove large kidney stones. Experts say proper medical treatment is necessary, and home remedies alone cannot guarantee the quick removal of kidney stones. Furthermore, during the investigation, we contacted dietician Bishnupriya Gadnayak. She said, “Coconut water is a natural drink rich in potassium, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help maintain hydration and support digestion. Olive oil contains healthy fats and bioactive compounds known for their anti-inflammatory and protective health benefits. Lemons are a good source of Vitamin C and antioxidants, which support immunity, digestion, and overall health. Although these ingredients may contribute to general well-being, there is no scientific evidence that coconut water, olive oil, and lemon can remove kidney stones within three days. Experts say kidney stones require proper medical evaluation and treatment based on their size, type, and location. While hydration and a healthy diet may support kidney health, home remedies alone cannot guarantee the removal of kidney stones.” Hence, we found the claim to be false. There is no scientific evidence that coconut water, olive oil, or lemon can dissolve kidney stones within three days. Doctors advise seeking proper medical consultation, as treatment depends on the size, type, and severity of the kidney stone.
