  • Fact Check: Video of high school student threatening teacher with gun is NOT from the US, it's from France According to a France 24 report, it was a fake gun. The teen admitted to pointing the imitation gun at the teacher but said it was meant "as a joke" and was unaware he was being filmed. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The video is neither recent nor from the US. It is more than four years old and from Creteil, France. A video of a teenager threatening his teacher with a gun in a classroom has shocked the internet. On social media, people claimed that the video was from the US and criticised President Joe Biden's government. On Twitter, one person shared the video and wrote, “This is clearly Biden's America brought to you by alt-left extremist being elected into power.” Another person tweeted, “I see so many videos of students disrespecting teachers and now a gun. The US is out of control. They behave like animals.” The archived versions of such claims can be seen here, here and here. AFWA found that the video is more than four years old and from France, not the US. AFWA Probe A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to various news reports from October 2018, which contained this video. As per the BBC, the video was initially distributed on Snapchat and was from a school in Créteil, a commune in the southeastern suburbs of Paris. The incident was filmed and uploaded to social media by one of the gun-wielding teen’s classmates. According to a France 24 report, it was a fake gun. The teen admitted to pointing the imitation gun at the teacher but said it was meant "as a joke" and was unaware he was being filmed. He was reportedly angry that the teacher marked him down as absent when he had been merely late for class. We then looked on YouTube and found the same video shared by The Sun, on October 22, 2018. As per the video’s description, the teen faced prison time for the "joke" after the teacher in the clip reported the schoolboy for "violent threats with a weapon," which can earn the offender up to five years in prison. Thus, it’s clear that the viral video is neither recent nor from the US. It is more than four years old and from Creteil, France.
