Quick Take
A social media video shows a woman claiming 5G towers release radiation that causes nosebleed, low sperm count, headache, insomnia or brain cancer. We fact-checked and found the claim to be False.
The Claim
A Facebook video post claims ‘ SHARE THE HECK OUT OF THIS!!! This video has been taken down 4 times and had more than 1,500 shares and 27,500 views in less than 24 hours! Sick depopulation plan on American soil! Bill Gates purchased 5.3 million shares of Crown Castle (the company that installed 5G while on lockdown) and Mark Zuckerberg also highly invested! They do NOT want you to know about this radiation being emitted from these towers! That is WHY this video keeps getting deleted. We must STOP The 5G rollout!! ’.
The video shows a woman standing at a distance from what she claims to be a 5G transmission tower and holding a device which seems to be a radiation detector. As per the woman, this detector is showing an increase in the value to claim that 5G is harmful and can cause nosebleed, low sperm count, headache, insomnia and brain cancer.
Fact Check
Does the 5G network cause nosebleed, low sperm count, headache, insomnia or brain cancer?
It does not seem so. No evidence suggests radiation from the 5G network causes nosebleed, low sperm count, headache, insomnia or brain cancer. These side effects may be from radiation therapy done to kill cancer cells. But radiation therapy is different from radiation released by transmission towers and radioactivity.
The Healthy Indian Project (THIP Media) has previously referred to a Deloitte (2020) report which shows ‘radiation’ is not ‘radioactivity’ by claiming ‘the literal definition of radiation is merely any process by which an object (from a human to a radiator to a star) emits energy (whether heat, light, or radioactive particles), which then travels through a medium (such as the air or hot water) and is absorbed by another object (a human body, a frying pan, a steam engine, or anything else)’.
THIP Media has also shown that most people get exposed to lower frequencies of radiation from the 5G network which seems to cause no serious damage to the body or immune system. Besides this, it is quite evident that there is a lack of credible data that can end the widespread misinformation around the safety of 5G transmission towers. 5G network is also claimed to have spread new Covid variant EG.5.
In conclusion, the available evidence shows that the 5G network emits radiation but not enough to damage the human body. At the same time, there is a lack of published scientific evidence that shows whether radiation from the 5G network is harmful.
THIP MEDIA TAKE: No evidence suggests radiation from the 5G network causes nosebleed, low sperm count, headache, insomnia or brain cancer. Hence, the claim remains false until proven otherwise.
