  • Fact Check: India Today HASN'T released exit polls for 2024 election yet, these projections are FAKE Both graphics are fake. India Today has not released its exit poll data yet. Actual exit poll figures will be broadcast only after 6.30 pm on June 1. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check These infographics are fake. India Today has not released its exit poll data yet. Actual exit poll figures will be broadcast only after 6.30 pm on June 1. The seventh and last phase of voting in the ongoing Lok Sabha Election is to take place on June 1. In this phase, a total of 57 constituencies including all 13 seats of Punjab will go to polls. As Punjab prepares to vote, two infographics purporting to show exit polls conducted by India Today are being widely shared on social media. These alleged exit polls project a lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Amritsar and Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha seats. The viral infographic projects 31 per cent votes to the BJP, 29 per cent to the Aam Aadmi Party, 21 per cent to the Congress, and 12 per cent to the Shiromani Akali Dal in Hoshiarpur. Whereas in Amritsar, the vote shares projected to these parties were 33 per cent, 25 per cent, 28 per cent, and 10 per cent respectively. Both infographics featured India Today’s logo. While sharing the alleged Amritsar exit poll projections, a Facebook user wrote, “Great news BJP winner Amritsar exit poll, Check voting percentage.” Both infographics are fake. India Today has not released its exit poll yet. Actual exit poll figures will be broadcast only after 6.30 pm on June 1. It’s noteworthy that the Election Commission of India has restricted the broadcast of any exit poll data between 7 am on April 19 and 6.30 pm on June 1. The viral infographics also appeared to have been made in the template of India Today’s Digital Intelligence Unit or DIU, which used a similar template while broadcasting the exit polls of Punjab assembly elections 2022. India Today’s exit polls also do not predict vote share for particular Lok Sabha seats. These projections are always presented according to states and as a whole across the nation. In February 2024, India Today’s Mood Of The Nation survey predicted five seats each for the Congress and the AAP in Punjab. Whereas, it predicted two seats for the BJP and one seat for the SAD in the state. In Amritsar, Congress’ sitting MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla is in a fight with BJP’s Taranjit Singh Sandhu and AAP’s Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal. In Hoshiarpur, BJP’s sitting MP Anita Som Parkash is eyeing a hat-trick as she competes with Congress’ Yamini Gomar and AAP’s Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal. Thus, it’s more than clear that the viral infographics are fake. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
