  • A rumor circulated online in March 2026 that musician Fred Durst, frontman of the band Limp Bizkit, once condemned the Iraq War and predicted America would make the same mistake years later in Iran. One popular post on Instagram (archived) shared the purported quote along with a photo of Durst in June 2025 and the caption, "THE PROPHECY HATH BEEN FORETOLD." The purported date of his statement, March 20, 2003, is recognized as the start of the Iraq War, as it was the day U.S. forces invaded Iraq and Baghdad was attacked. The alleged Durst quote circulated again on social media (archived) after the United States and Israel initiated war with Iran in February 2026. Durst's full purported statement read: This war on Iraq is bulls***. Just watch, in 2025 they'll try to pull the same s*** with Iran. They'll say it's WMDs or whatever. It's all lies. It's all propaganda. Never trust the government. The quote was incorrectly attributed to Durst. Snopes found no evidence that Durst made this comment, either in print or in a taped interview, on March 20, 2003, or any other date. We reached out via email to Durst, who confirmed he never made the statement in question. Snopes did uncover some comments Durst made about the Iraq War, but none matched the one circulating in the 2026 claim. During the Grammy Awards on Feb. 23, 2003, Durst was a presenter for the "hard rock performance" category alongside rapper Eve. Before he read the prepared statement from the teleprompter, Durst said, "I just really hope we are in agreeance that this war should go away as soon as possible." The moment is available to watch on YouTube. Durst's use of the word "agreeance" sparked debate at the time, and Spin magazine wrote later that year: "And with those words, he somehow managed to annoy millions. Was he for the war, or against it? For proper English, or against it? Eventually, an editor of the Oxford English Dictionary explained that agreeance is a real word, but by then, no one cared." Durst also mentioned the Iraq War on March 21, 2003, one day after the official start of the war and the date of the alleged statement circulating online. Durst wrote a blog on Limp Bizkit's website about an upcoming performance at WWE Wrestlemania and added: and as for the war....i cannot believe it. it is in full effect. bombs exsploding all over my television screen. surreal. its not a movie. its reality now!! i pray for all of the people over in iraq that are fighting in this war. and i pray for anyone who gets hurt or is killed in this war. i also pray for all of the american troops that are fighting this war. i pray that they stand strong and that their courage wont let them down. and i pray that they come home safe and celebrate a US victory. this is life today people!! this is what is going on friday march 21, 2003. unbelievable!! we have to stick together. we cant protest any longer. we have to support our country now because we are at the point of no return now. go USA!! go freedom for iraq!! and on that note, our new cd is gonna hit you with a similar impact!! got it? good!! i love you and kiss my a**!! fred In sum, Durst did not make the statement attributed to him in 2026 in which he supposedly predicted the war with Iran while condemning the Iraq War in 2003, though he did make public statements about the Iraq War generally.
