In another story, BBC reports the death of 63 children among the 219 people who have been killed in Gaza, as per their health ministry. And two children among the 10 killed in Israel, according to the country’s medical service. Amid this, a video of children with paint-coloured faces is being shared by multiple social media users with the claim, “How children are being colored on the international level to show Muslims victims in Gaza so that they can look bloody and defame Israel. Share this post so much that this post is visible to everyone in the country and abroad.” Translated from Hindi to English it reads, “In Gaza, how are children being dyed at international level to show Muslims suffering, so that they can be seen soaked with blood and more and more shares can be used to discredit Israel.” Newschecker received the video in context on its Whatsapp tip line (9999499044) for verification. Also Read: Facebook Users Shared Simulation Video Captioned “Israel Defence System” As Real Taking cue from the watermark (Gaza Post) on the top-left corner of the video, we performed a reverse image search of select keyframes with relevant keywords that led us to the 2017 video by Gaza Post. With over 36,000 views the video’s description when translated reads, “Cinematic tricks are an art that transmits Gaza in a different way to the world.” Our search also led us to a 2018 fact-check by Snopes on a similar claim. The clip in the claim has been taken from a longer video published by Gaza Post “about makeup artist Mariam Salah and her work in the Palestinian cinema special effects industry,” reported Snopes. The clip in the claim excludes keyframes where several people are shown wearing a vest over their outfits with “special effect make-up” written on it. Turkish state-owned news broadcaster TRT World also featured this video on their arts and culture program, Showcase: Palestinian Film Industry in 2017. It highlighted, “There are not many film productions in the Gaza Strip. But that didn’t stop makeup artist Mariam Salah from following her dream. She taught herself to make fake blood for Palestinian films breaking into a business traditionally run by men.” Also Read: Claims on 5G Testing Radiation Being The Cause Of India’s Second COVID-19 Wave Are False A 2017 video of a Palestinian make-up artist and team at work on a film set has been misrepresented and shared with claims of children’s faces being painted to show them as victims in Gaza and “defame Israel”.
