  • Recently, a video has been circulated on social media with the claim, “They are not even sparing the police sister.” See the post circulated on Facebook with this claim here (Archive). Fact Check The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation reveals that the crying woman in the circulated video is not a member of the Bangladesh Police. In reality, she is a member of the Assam Police in India. This female police officer was injured in a clash with protesters in Assam last December. This is the scene of that incident. Investigating this matter, a video circulated on December 23 of last year by an Instagram account named ‘the.assam_enquiry’ was found. The video circulated with the discussed claim matches this video. From the caption of the said video, it is known that this is an incident in the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India. Several police personnel were injured there in clashes between police and protesters. This is the scene of that incident. Based on the mentioned information, news broadcast by multiple Indian media outlets regarding the video was found (1, 2). From a report published on the website of The Week on December 23 of last year, it is known that fresh violence has spread in the conflict-prone Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Two people were killed and at least 45 were injured in this. Among the injured are 38 police personnel. The situation heated up due to clashes between two protesting groups. Security forces baton-charged and fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. That is, the woman in the video is not a member of the Bangladesh Police. Therefore, a video of a female police officer injured in clashes with protesters in Assam has been circulated with the claim of torture of a Hindu female police officer in Bangladesh; which is false.
