  • Last Updated on October 1, 2024 by Nivedita Quick Take A viral video published online by a social media user shows four doctors claiming that Covid-19 vaccines have unknown ingredients and are responsible for myocarditis among athletes. The doctors also claimed that the Covid-19 vaccines never underwent animal and safety testing before rolling out for the public. We fact-checked and found the claim to be false. The Claim In response to a question on the ingredients and censored stories of Covid-19 vaccines by the social media user Jeremy Slayden, the panel of four doctors made some misleading claims about Covid-19 vaccines. Jeremy Slayden posted the video saying, “At a doctor’s panel in Nashville last week, I had the opportunity to ask several highly respected doctors a couple of questions about the vaccines, especially in regards to the mystery ingredients as well as the deaths that seem to follow those credible folks who begin to ask too many questions. Every single doctor on the panel decided to respond”. The viral video can be seen here, here, here, here, here, and here. Fact Check What are the ingredients of Covid-19 vaccines? The World Health Organization (WHO) says, “Vaccines contain tiny fragments of the disease-causing organism or the blueprints for making the tiny fragments”. These fragments are then mixed with other ingredients to keep the vaccine safe and effective. WHO website has explained the processes through which the Covid-19 vaccines are mass-produced. Moreover, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website has shown the list of ingredients for all the Covid-19 vaccines. More information on the list of ingredients can be seen here, here, here, here, here, and here. Are Covid-19 vaccines experimental? No. The CDC website shows that all Covid-19 vaccines have undergone safety testing before making them public. Initially, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson and Johnson and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines under its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) program for immediate use. In August 2021, FDA approved Pfizer-BioNTech to be sold under the brand name Comirnaty whereas Moderna is awaiting the approval. However, other vaccines still need full FDA approval. Both the flu shot, and COVID-19 vaccines are subject to public scrutiny, highlighting the need for accurate information on their ingredients and safety profiles. Have Covid-19 vaccines increased deaths among athletes? No. There are no studies that suggest Covid-19 vaccines have caused deaths among athletes. The Healthy Indian Project (THIP) has discussed the false claim of increased deaths among athletes due to vaccine-related myocarditis in detail here. Moreover, the claim “almost 20,000 people have reportedly died” after the Covid-19 vaccine with reference to the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event System (VAERS) report is inaccurate. The VAERS website allows everyone to report adverse events. That being the case, the website claims to prove no causality till the investigation completes as the report can be inaccurate and incomplete. Was animal testing skipped for Covid-19 vaccines? No. The animal testing was done for Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson and Johnson. More information on animal testing of these vaccines is available here, here, here, here, and here. Are spike proteins toxic? No. The spike protein is located on the outside of the coronavirus to help the virus enter the human body. As spike protein enters the body, the immune system prepares antibodies against it. The spike protein, used in the vaccines, lasts for a few weeks only. As the immune system quickly identifies the spike protein, they are attacked and destroyed by the natural antibodies leaving behind no toxicity.
